The Lantern continues the publishing tradition associated with Whare Ra and the Stella Matutina in New Zealand. These three volumes bring together historical research, personal recollections, archival documents and teachings connected with the Smaragdum Thalasses Temple.
Volumes I (2012) and II (2015) centre on A Wayfaring Man, Harriot Felkin’s account of the life of Dr Robert Felkin. Volume III (2019) turns more directly to surviving teachings, practices and historical records from the Order.
Originally issued as hardbound limited edition books, the volumes can now be downloaded below – gratis.

The Lantern Volume I — A Wayfaring Man, Part I
Volume I introduces the world from which Whare Ra emerged. Its central work is the first part of Harriot Felkin’s A Wayfaring Man, a biographical account of Dr Robert Felkin originally serialised in the earlier New Zealand publication The Lantern.
Alongside it are studies of the remarkable cultural and spiritual environment of early twentieth-century Havelock North, Felkin’s work as an astrologer, and the history and purpose of the Golden Dawn tradition in New Zealand. The volume concludes with writings and recollections of Frank Salt (Frater Fiat Lux), one of Whare Ra’s longest-serving members and later Chiefs.
Contents include:
The Magic of Havelock North
Robert Felkin the Astrologer
A Wayfaring Man, Part I
Writings and recollections of Fiat Lux

The Lantern Volume II — A Wayfaring Man, Part II
Volume II completes Harriot Felkin’s A Wayfaring Man, following Robert Felkin through the later stages of his life and the establishment of the Stella Matutina in New Zealand.
It is accompanied by an early Order paper on the symbolism of the Rose and an account of Father J. Charles Fitzgerald, the Anglican priest and Stella Matutina adept whose influence was instrumental in bringing Felkin and the Order to New Zealand.
The volume also preserves the full surviving transcript of the Whare Ra Warrant and a selection of Temple administrative papers from 1957–1960.
Contents include:

The Magical Monk
A Wayfaring Man, Part II

The Lantern Volume III — Berashith
Volume III moves from biography and history into the teachings and surviving working papers of the Order.
Its principal work, Frank Salt’s Berashith, explores the Hebrew alphabet as a system of mystical and magical interpretation, with applications to Divine Names, talismanic imagery and the inner symbolism of the Tarot. It provides a rare glimpse into the contemplative and practical work of an advanced Golden Dawn Adept.
The volume also preserves the Whare Ra Tarot Trumps, papers on the Elementals, daily practices for the Outer Grades, the Dance of the Zodiac, early Stella Matutina administrative instructions, an account of the Order’s history, and correspondence surrounding the closure of Whare Ra in 1978.
Contents include:

Whare Ra Tarot Trumps
The Elementals
Outer Order Daily Rhythms
Dance of the Zodiac
Historical and administrative papers
