The Living Flame

One of the documents I was given by Fiat Lux to aid me in my Adeptus Minor studies was his “5=6 Notebook”, as he referred to it. The notebook is approximately A5 in size, bound in a green hard cover. Its contents include:

– Subjects for Study;

– The Supreme Ritual of the Hexagram; The Lesser Ritual of the Hexagram; Addendum to Hexagram Ritual;

– To Purify and Banish a Room;

– Method of Putting on God-forms;

– Supreme Ritual of the Pentagram; Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram; Addendum on the Pentagram Ritual;

– To Light a Candle Ceremonially;

– Formula of St Raphael;

– To Make Holy Water;

– Formula for Exorcism (Minor);

– Method of Healing and Helping Another;

– Conjuration of the Four.

The notebook is handwritten and undated. I do not know the exact year that Fiat Lux received his 5=6, but indications suggest the early 1950s.

Amongst the more official and well-known instructions — for example, the Pentagram Rituals — there are also several short rituals for personal use by the Adept. One of these, To Light a Candle Ceremonially, I wish to share with you.

Whether this ritual was official, an official example, or written for his own devotion, I cannot say.

However, it speaks to something deeper than just the words themselves: the quiet expectation in the Order that an Adept should command their work, not merely recite official dogma. While there may appear to be emotional and intellectual security in remaining within the safety net of “how it was originally done,” that very reliance is a hallmark of the Path of Peh — which oscillates between Hod and Netzach, and represents only the most advanced stage of evolution of the uninitiated.

For the Adept who has pierced this veil and who strives to be more than human, the confidence to adapt and expand through direct experience was both expected and cultivated. It was part of the living culture of the Order. Members did so with confidence knowing this.

This approach is difficult to grasp through books and documents alone, for these record only the words but not the understanding.

Within the actual Order, the living flame has always been understood to adapt to the lamp that holds it.

And as always, Silence seals the personal work of the Adept.

Make the full L.V.X. signs.
