This often quoted phrase has more to it than many people realise.
Hebrew is used extensively throughout many of the various O. manuscripts from Ceremonies to KL’s to side papers and private notes and rituals. It’s use is almost always exclusively to do with the Sacred and associated with the Tree of Life and other Qabalistic concepts including the many Divine names of Gods, Angels and the Qlippoth. Some of these names are so sacred as to never being spoken aloud, and only written or done so in a whisper.
And if we accept, as surely we all must do, that these names etc are real, of divine origin and therefore emanating from the One Thing, then Hebrew itself must be accepted as a form of sacred symbol, and we are taught that all sacred symbols must be traced with great care.
We must therefore write each letter thoughtfully as if scribing a talisman, and in fact we must also do so with great reverence if we are to empower these letters with divine force. In this way angelic names etc become composite talismans representing a very specific Force.
On a purely psychological level, the sub-conscious mind is very clever at picking up details not noticed by the conscious mind, and then files them away. Sub-consciously how must we then be viewing and filing away Hebrew names of divine forces if we are in the habit of writing Hebrew hurriedly, in shorthand, and without paying detail to accuracy of form, composition and proportion? Essentially we are saying they are of little importance to our Work. Outwardly we are pretending they are sacred, but inwardly we are filing them away with errors and with an air of casualness and even contempt.
Fortunately the reverse is also true, and in writing Hebrew, and doing it with a degree of respect and with spiritual intent, we are doing so as was meant to be and infusing these letters with Divine Force.
So to any Neophytes who read this, my advice is to pay special attention to Hebrew, ALWAYS write it as neatly and respectfully as you are able with great care, and know that in doing so you will be laying a firm foundation for more advanced work in the years ahead of you.
