The Order’s Method of Meditation

To the best of my knowledge, this has never been published before. It is an important technique that lays the foundation for more advanced workings in the Inner O. Done correctly, over several years, in combination with Ceremonial and Silence, it enables a two-way communication with one’s Soul. It is, in many respects, the Mercury of the Philosophers.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith.” Revelation 2:29

Following the usual Ritual of the Q Cross and Pentagram, place an upright chair in the West of a private room, and face East. Take the meditation topic to mind, and focus one’s attention on it. Be active, not passive. You are not trying to relax, or empty your mind, but instead you are actively trying to search out the meaning of the meditation topic.

Reject any ideas that are not related to the topic. Pursue ideas that are on track, and write brief notes on what comes to mind (these are then sent to the Demonstrator for review, they also ground the process – think the Lightening Flash here). Initially these will be thoughts relating to what we have been told; what we have read. In essence, preconceptions. The more we have read, or been told, the longer it takes to work out these preconceptions. They are of no use to the Soul. Intellect and academia are of no use to the Soul. They have already served their purpose in evolution to get us this far, to get Nature thus far.

If the same train of thoughts or insights occur, reject them. Always look for new insights, new angles to view the Meditation topic.

At the end of each session, stand up firmly, repeat the opening Ritual, and then go on one’s daily business. Do not ponder further on the sessions insights, no matter how revelatory they are. Get on with life and stand firm in Malkuth.

Do this for 20 minutes each day, 6 days a week. Ideally first thing in the morning.

After a period, it becomes hard not to repeat previous thoughts. A dry spell will occur, usually over several days, but sometimes weeks. Continue to Meditate, using the above technique. Eventually, Intuition will strike in the vacuum, and you will achieve an insight that is totally of your own making. This is the beginning of a very long road.

Most people find it hard to leave the comfort of what they “believe”. It takes courage to “know”, for oneself. PREPARE TO ENTER THE IMMEASURABLE REGION, bellows the Hierophant!

Another usual response is to see if one is “correct”. This is the ego speaking. The ego does not like to be wrong. Don’t feed it. Discover the freedom to be wrong. In doing so, it will open many subsequent doors.

Silence is golden. Do not tell others of your insights, no matter how brilliant they might seem at the time. Keep Silent. Bragging about your discoveries only feeds the ego, and robs others of the chance to discover things for themselves. Don’t create preconceptions for them.

What is important, is not the insights you have, but rather that you are exercising your Intuition to find them. You are really trying to listen to your Soul. Lend her an ear, and she will speak to you, hesitantly at first, but over time as your ability to communicate improves, so does the fluency of the conversation, the flow of Intuition – inner tuition.

Piscatores Hominum – become a fisher of men. Throw your hook into the deep sea, and see what you pull up.
